Swim Groups

The Clovis Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Clovis Swim Club here to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

To join, please bring your future swimmer(s) to an assessment.  Assessments are necessary to assure your athlete is properly placed in a training level.  There are no appointments necessary.  Registration papers will be made available at the assessments. 

Clovis Swim Club will be running assessments at the following dates and times:

Clovis North on Mondays and Thursdays at 5:15pm with Coach Adam Reid

Clovis East on Mondays and Thursdays at 6:30pm with Coach Abby Winters

*Please be on time for assessments.

  Please note that your swimmer must be able to swim 2 lengths of the pool freestyle (with arm circles and side breathing) and one length of the pool backstroke (with arm circles) in order to join.  If they do not have the ability to perform these two strokes we will refer you and your swimmer to lessons at Swim America Swim School (559-324-7946) and you will be welcomed to be reassessed by us once they have had enough lessons to meet our minimum entry  requirements. Stroke Team

Clovis Swim Club offers two levels of Stroke Team: Seahorse and Stingray.

Seahorse is a group for the novice swimmer.  The first two strokes, freestyle and backstroke, are the focus of this group.  Athletes work on proper stroke technique as well as starts and turns appropriate for these strokes.  Athletes are also introduced to breaststroke and butterfly minimally.  After the athlete has mastered freestyle and backstroke they progress to the Stingray level.

Stingray is a level that continues stroke technique in freestyle and backstroke, but focuses on the final two competitive strokes of breaststroke and butterfly.  Athletes focus on proper stroke technique, appropriate turns and race starts for these competitive strokes.  The final step is to introduce athletes to the Individual Medley (IM); a race in which all four competitive strokes are utilized in a specific order of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke then freestyle.

  Move Up Criteria: 300 yards (12 laps) freestyle in under 8 minutes and 30 seconds and a 200 IM (8 laps: two of each stroke in medley order).

Bronze Group-

This is our intro- to- competition group.  The group focus is still on proper stroke technique, but also on developing endurance and speed.  It is strongly recommended that swimmers attend a minimum of 3 practices per week and swimmers need to attend a minimum of two sanctioned competitions per season at this level.  Athletes are also encouraged to develop a value for goal setting and personal improvement. 

Move-Up Criteria from Bronze to Silver: 8 X 100 free on 2:10 and 4 X 100 IM on 2:30 comfortably.

Clovis West/North Bronze Group Coach: Ben Britten

Workout Days/Times: Monday - Friday 5:30 to 6:45pm and Saturdays from 10:00- 11:30am @ North. (Please note that there are no Saturday practices on the weekends of scheduled competitions.  Please check the Clovis North Bronze group practice schedule under ’Calendars’.)

Clovis East Bronze Group Coach: Abby Winters

Workout Days/Times: M-F 5:45-7:00pm at Clovis East.  On Saturdays all practices are held at Clovis North following the Clovis West/North practice schedule.  These combined practices allow athletes to familiarize themselves with athletes and coaches from our different sites and promotes team unity. (Please note that there are no Saturday practices on the weekends of scheduled competitions)

Buchanan Bronze Group Coach: TBA

Workout Days/Times: M-F 5:30- 6:45pm; Sat. practices will be combined at Clovis North following the Clovis West/North Schedule.

Silver Group 

Athletes in this group have demonstrated advanced skills in all four competitive strokes, developed endurance in each of the strokes, an ability to set and achieve personal goals, and a drive to train and compete.  Athletes in this level should attend a minimum of four practices a week and three sanctioned competitions per season.

Move- Up Criteria: 8 X 100 free on 1:50 and 6 X 100 IM on 2:10 comfortably

Clovis West /North Coach: Adam Reid

Workout Days/Times: Monday - Friday from 5:30- 6:45pm and Saturdays from 10- 11:30am @ North (Please note that there are no Saturday practices on the weekends of scheduled competitions)

Clovis East Silver Group Coach: Rich Petzinger

Gold Group

Athletes in this group are at least 10 years old. This group is exposed to advanced training for the first time.  This group trains for same duration of time as the Silver level but at the intensity of the PreSenior level.  Athletes at this level should attend a minium of four practices per week and 3 sanctioned competitions per season.

Clovis West/North Gold Group Coach: Ben Britten 

Workout Days/Times: Monday - Friday 5:00-6:30pm, Saturdays from 8-10am @ North.  (Please note that there are no Saturday practices on the weekends of scheduled competitions) 

Platinum

This group mirrors the practice intensity of the Gold group but is extended from 1.5 hous to two hours to better prepare athletes for the increased training time and level of the Pre-Senior group.

Clovis West/North Platinum Coach: An Baxter

Workout Days/ Times: M-F 5:00- 7:00pm and Saturdays 8:00-10am @ North

Pre-Senior

The intensity of Platinum level training is expanded into a two hour practice to prepare athletes for Senior level training.  An athlete’s sense of personal goals, and responsibility to train diligently to reach those goals, is stressed.  These athletes are expected to enter them selves into competition as well as select their own events as well as attend nearly ever practice offered for the group.  Athletes should attend at least four sanctioned competitions per season.

Clovis West Pre-Senior Group Coach: An Baxter

Workout Days/Times: Monday - Friday 5:15-7:15pm, Saturdays from 8-10am.  There is no Pre-Senior group offered at Clovis High at this time.  (Please note that there are no Saturday practices on the weekends of scheduled competitions) 

Senior

 Minimum age for entry into this group is 13.  Athletes entering the Senior Group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level possible. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present. 

Clovis West Senior Group Coaches:  Adam Reid, John McGough

Workout Days/Times: Monday- Friday 3:30- 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. 

Elite

Elite group Coach is Head Coach John McGough.

Workout Days/Times:

M,T,TH,F 3:30- 6:30pm @ Clovis North

W 3:30- 5:30pm @ Clovis North

M,T, F 6:30- 8:00am @ Clovis West

Th 7:00- 9:00am @ Clovis West
